Dance-Scapes

Dance-Scapes is an annual creative movement forum and immersive camp, that celebrates and cultivates the rich diversity of Lebanon's contemporary dance landscapes. Curated with a vision to foster a dynamic communal space for exchange through practice, around contemporary forms, researches and approaches to dance and somatics.

Dance-Scapes holds space for the rich ecology of artistic explorations and embodiments among the dance and movement professionals as well as their relation to their audience. Unlike a traditional festival, the forum emphasizes meaningful encounters and dialogues among participants, encouraging an open and collaborative environment where diverse perspectives on movement can be shared and explored.

It is a vibrant and inclusive environment for diverse dance and movement practices to thrive. It prioritizes educational growth, supports creative exploration, and facilitates meaningful interactions, ultimately enriching the broader landscape of the Lebanese movement arts. It welcomes professionals, semi-professionals and amateurs alike.

The forum focuses on 3 different aspects:

The Educational and Technical Volet

Dance-Scapes offers an educational component, featuring technical classes and somatic movement education. Participants can engage with a variety of techniques and methodologies, enhancing their skills and understanding of different movement practices. This educational focus promotes a foundation for participants to explore and improve their own kinesthetic fluency.

The Choreographic Volet

Dance-Scapes offers a choreographic component, which serves as a platform for sharing innovative creative research in the form of creative labs. This aspect allows teaching-artists to share their choreographic universe, experiment with new ideas, and receive feedback from peers. It fosters a culture of inquiry and collective advancement in choreography, where ideas can be tested and refined in a supportive context.

The Performative Volet

The performative volet provides space for showcasing works-in-progress and/or finished pieces, inviting reflection on the processes of performance and dance-making. Practitioners are encouraged to share their creations with an audience, creating opportunities for dialogue and exchange. This allows for curatorial encounters that juxtapose both similar and contrasting artistic research, enhancing the richness of the dance scene’s ecosystem.

Dance-Scapes is founded and curated by Corinne Skaff since 2020.
